Where can I find a non-satellite radio that picks up stations from around the world?

Asking this for my mother’s sake…she used to take care of a very ill man, who enjoyed having this special radio tuned to various over seas stations. This was before the advent of satellite radio…so I assume it was some kind of special high frequency device or what have you…but not sure what it would be called, so I cannot exactly look for one for her.

You can also try Sangean, Sony and Panasonic they make a good quality short wave radio line, especially in portables. Also give Radio Shack a try.

If you only need a good quality table top (short wave) receiver, try these brands– Yaesu, Kenwood, Drake. These brands can be found on the internet and also new and used on eBay.
